Pumpkins, leaves, and bringing the outside in

September 24, 2006

As the nights lengthen – I begin to look forward to a period of dormancy. Fall will be filled with activities – it always is. There will be weekend field trips and homecoming. Cross Country meets, dinners, and practices. My outside work will be harvesting and preparing for the winter.

I used to love fall, but fear the cold and darkness of winter. I grieved until the winter solstice came and cheered me on. Something has shifted in me. For reasons that are still murky – I feel more content. The events of September, 2002 that catapulted me into this four year cycle have lost their hold on me.

In their place is gratitude.
